Overview
This vape coil resistance guide explains what 0.4, 0.6, 0.8 and 1.2 ohm mean when you shop for coils and pods. In short, lower ohm gives a warmer, airier draw and uses more power. Higher ohm gives a tighter, cooler draw.
It suits anyone replacing a coil or pod and unsure which number to pick. We are Vapes Dubai Store, and as of 29 Sep 2026 the coils, pods and cartridges we hold in stock list resistances from 0.15 ohm up to 1.4 ohm. Adults 21+ only.

Vape coil resistance guide: what ohms mean
Resistance, measured in ohms (Ω), describes how strongly a coil resists the electric current from your battery. A low number lets more current through, so the coil heats faster and produces more vapour.
A high number lets less current through. The coil heats gently, uses less battery and less e-liquid, and gives a draw closer to a cigarette-style pull.
Any good vape coil resistance guide will tell you the same thing: resistance is not quality. A 1.2 ohm coil is not weaker or better than a 0.4 ohm coil. It is built for a different style of vaping and a different power range.
Why the coil, not the pod, sets the number
On a pod system the resistance is printed on the coil inside the pod, or on the pod itself if the coil is built in. That is why many of our listings show a Resistance option, so you can choose the value that matches your kit.
Always pick the pod or coil made for your exact device. Resistance is only one part of compatibility, and a coil that fits the wrong device can leak or fail to fire.
0.4 ohm coils: bigger clouds, more power
A 0.4 ohm coil is a low-resistance coil. It suits direct-to-lung (DTL) style, where you draw deeply and get a large, warm cloud. Many 0.4 ohm mesh coils are rated for roughly 26 to 32 W, as shown on our Vaporesso GTX mesh coil listing.
The trade-offs are simple. A 0.4 ohm coil drains the battery faster and uses more e-liquid, and it needs a device that can supply the power.
In stock now, 0.4 ohm is listed on pods such as the OXVA Xlim EZ, the Uwell GPP Alpha, the Vaporesso Luxe X series and the SMOK RPM coil pack. It also appears on Geekvape Super Mesh and Z Series coil packs, alongside lower values.
Before you buy, confirm the listing shows 0.4 for your device. The Resistance option is the safest place to check.
0.6 and 0.8 ohm coils: the all-round middle
0.6 and 0.8 ohm are the most common values on pod kits. They sit between a tight draw and a big cloud, which is why they are usually the default pod in the box.
A 0.6 ohm coil suits a slightly airy mouth-to-lung pull with moderate power. A 0.8 ohm coil is a little tighter and uses less power still. On our GTX listing, 0.6 ohm is rated 20 to 26 W and 0.8 ohm 12 to 16 W.
These values are the easiest to find in stock. Examples include the OXVA Xlim family, the Vaporesso XROS series, the Uwell Caliburn GPP pods, the SMOK RPM and Nord coils, and the Freemax Rexa pod.
0.6 versus 0.8, which to pick
Choose 0.6 if you want a fuller vapour and a little more warmth. Choose 0.8 if you want slightly tighter draws and longer battery life. If the listing offers both and you cannot decide, the difference is small, and most people settle within a pod or two.
1.2 ohm coils: tight, cool and efficient
A 1.2 ohm coil is a high-resistance, mouth-to-lung (MTL) coil. The draw is tight and cool, the battery lasts longer, and each refill goes further.
Higher resistance is often used with nicotine salt e-liquids, because the lower power suits a smaller, smoother hit. Whatever you use, read the nicotine strength on the label.
In stock as of 29 Sep 2026, 1.2 ohm is listed on OXVA Xlim options, Uwell GPP Alpha, Uwell Caliburn G2 pods, Vaporesso Luxe Q and Eco Nano pods, and the SMOK RPM coil pack. Some SMOK Nord pods list 1.4 ohm if you want to go higher.
Matching resistance to your device and e-liquid
Use this vape coil resistance guide as a starting point, then check what your device manufacturer recommends. Every pod kit has a supported wattage range, and the coil is designed to work inside it. Going outside that range is the fastest way to a burnt taste.
Then think about how you vape. Want a cigarette-like pull? Look at 0.8 to 1.2 ohm. Want more cloud and airflow? Look at 0.4 to 0.6 ohm. Prefer something in between? 0.6 to 0.8 ohm covers most people.
E-liquid also matters. Thinner, high-PG liquids and nicotine salts do well on higher-resistance coils. Thicker, high-VG liquids usually pair better with lower-resistance coils, because the extra heat helps them wick.
Very low resistance coils
Some coil packs in stock list values well below 0.4 ohm, such as 0.15 or 0.2 ohm on Freemax MX, Geekvape Z and Voopoo PnP options. These are made for high-wattage sub-ohm tanks, not pod kits. Do not use them unless your device is made for them.
Reading resistance on a product listing
Check three things: the device name, the resistance option and the pack size. Many listings sell one product with several resistances, so you pick the value from the drop-down before adding to cart.
Some pods list a coil type instead of a number. For example, DC MTL, Mesh or Quartz coils appear on SMOK pods. If a number is missing from the listing, we do not guess it here. Ask us on the contact page and we will confirm before you order.
To finish this vape coil resistance guide, two more habits help. Prime a new coil with a few drops of e-liquid before the first puff, and let it soak for a few minutes. Replace a coil when the taste turns flat or burnt, not on a fixed schedule.

FAQ
What is a good resistance for a beginner?
0.8 ohm is a sensible starting point for most pod kits. It is the middle ground: not too airy, not too tight, and gentle on the battery. Always use the coil made for your exact device, and follow its wattage range.
Is a lower ohm coil better?
No. Lower ohm gives more vapour and heat but uses more power and e-liquid. Higher ohm gives a tighter draw and longer battery life. Neither is better. The right one depends on your device and how you like to vape.
Can I use any resistance in my pod kit?
No. Only use the pods or coils listed as compatible with your kit. The device is tuned for specific coils, and the wrong one can leak, burn or fail to fire. Check the device name in the listing.
What does the UAE age limit mean for buying?
